A School Record 12 U of U Men’s Swimmers/Divers Named As Scholar All-Americans

first_img FacebookTwitterLinkedInEmailNORFOLK, Va.-Wednesday, the University of Utah men’s swimming and diving squad had a school-record 12 student-athletes named as Scholar All-Americans by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America.Earning first-team honors for the Utes were senior Ben Scott of Steilacoom, Wash., senior Jack Burton of Ringwood, England and junior Austin Phillips of Centennial, Colo.This was special for Phillips as it commemorated the first time he had received a national academic ward as a collegiate student-athlete.The other nine Utes’ swimmers/divers to be honored received honorable mention status from the CSCAA.These include junior Daniel Theriault of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, sophomore Rahiti De Vos of Nice, France, sophomore Brody Lewis of Greeley, Colo., senior Nathan Makarewicz of Salt Lake City, junior Colten Montgomery of Winters, Calif., freshman Jenner Pennock of Temecula, Calif., senior Chris Taber of Rancho Santa, Calif. and sophomore Jeremy Young of Casper, Wyo.This past season, the Utah men’s swimming/diving team had a collective GPA of 3.11 and the Utes had six student-athletes named to the Pac-12’s all-Academic first team. Making the all-conference first team were Scott, Theriault, Lewis, Sogne and Young. Those on the second team included Burton, Phillips, Taber and De Vos.
